Amy W. Doolan, D.O. received her B.S. in Biology and her M.S. Ed. from Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, Virginia. She then graduated from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007 with her Osteopathic medical degree. Dr. Doolan completed her Internship and Family Medicine Residency in 2010 at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia and her Primary Care/Sports Medicine fellowship at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in July 2011. Dr. Doolan serves as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine & Primary care here at the college. In addition, she practices at Academic Primary Care Associates in Blacksburg, Virginia, specializing in all aspects of family medicine with a special emphasis in primary care sports medicine including osteopathic manipulative treatment, joint injections, prolotherapy and PRP injections used as non-surgical treatments for chronic pain as well as sports related injuries. She is the Director of the Family Medicine Residency at LewisGale Hospital, Montgomery.

Brian Dickens, D.O.Associate Program Director – VCOM

For his undergraduate degree, Dr. Dickens earned a B.S. in biology at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. He then attended the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia, graduating in 2005 with his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, New York, in 2006 before finishing his residency training in 2008 here in the New River Valley at Carilion Family Medicine Residency in Roanoke. Specializing in Family Practice, Dr. Dickens is Board Certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He is especially interested in the areas of international missionary work, medical genetics, sports medicine and sports nutrition, and pediatric and adolescent medicine. When not working as a professor or as a doctor here at APCA, he enjoys fitness, travel, outdoor activities and spending lots of time with his wife and three children.

Hilary Lois, D.O.Assistant Professor VCOM

Dr. Lois is a board certified family practice physician and is also fellowship trained in aesthetic anti-aging medicine. In addition to her work in primary care, medical lasers, and aesthetics, she also has a passion for teaching and is a member of the clinical faculty at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Virginia Campus. She also functions as an attending physician at APCA, precepting family medicine residents and teaching third and fourth year medical students.

Dr. Lois received her Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech. She went on to complete her osteopathic medical education at The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internship and family medicine residency at Lewis-Gale Hospital-Montgomery and is board certified in family medicine. In addition to her family medicine training during her years in residency, she also gained valuable experience in plastic surgery, dermatology, and aesthetic medicine. Her exposure to these areas of medicine reinforced her interest in learning how to optimize how her patients look and feel in their own skin. After her residency, she determined that the best way to offer the highest level of primary care to her patients while offering aesthetic and laser procedures was through additional and specialized training. She is now a Fellow in Aesthetic Anti-Aging Medicine through The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

Lindsay Call, DO, was born and raised in Christiansburg, VA. She attended Virginia Tech for her undergraduate training and received a B.S. in Biology and Psychology. She went to medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg. Following graduation she moved to North Carolina where she completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is excited to return home to pursue a Sports Medicine fellowship with VCOM and Virginia Tech. She has special interests in musculoskeletal medicine and women’s health. Dr. Napoli completed her Family Medicine Residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship at University of Utah. She is currently a clinical faculty member at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Virginia Campus. She also functions as an attending physician at APCA, precepting family medicine residents, and is a team physician for Virginia Tech Athletics. Abraham-Hardee-Sofia

Sofia Abraham-Hardee D.O., Ph.D. FACOP

Chair of Pediatrics and Associate Professor-VCOM

Dr. Abraham-Hardee received her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Biochemistry from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. She then went on to complete a post baccalaureate program at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She received her osteopathic medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007. A year later Dr. Abraham-Hardee completed her Ph.D. in International Health Education from Virginia Tech in 2008. She then finished her pediatric internship and residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania in June 2011.

Specializing in Pediatrics, Dr. Abraham-Hardee is a board certified pediatrician at the Academic Primary Care Associates in Blacksburg, Virginia. After residency, she and her family relocated to Blacksburg, Virginia. Now back in Virginia, Dr. Abraham-Hardee happily returned to her alma mater to hold the position of Discipline Chair in Pediatrics at the VCOM – Virginia campus.

Dr. Kozar earned her medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997 and completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron in 2001. Dr. Kozar is board certified in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. She currently practices at Academic Primary Care Associate in Blacksburg, VA.

In addition to spending time with her family, Dr. Kozar enjoys outdoor activities including biking, running and swimming. Dr. Kozar comes to us from Glastonbury, CT, where she practiced for 13 years.

Brolinson

Per Gunnar Brolinson, D.O.,Vice Provost for Research, VCOM

Dr. Gunnar Brolinson, Associate Dean for Clinical Research, is conducting collaborative research with the Center for Injury Biomechanics at Virginia Tech to understand the biomechanical basis of mild traumatic brain injury and to develop better methods for detecting these injuries sooner.

Dr. Brolinson is a frequent presenter at national sports medicine meetings on subjects such as the biomechanical basis of mild traumatic brain injury, osteopathic manipulative therapy for athletic injuries, exercise, and his experiences as an Olympic physician.

Dr Brolinson is the Vice Provost for Research at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Blacksburg, VA

Dr. Brolinson was the co-director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship training program at The Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio and has extensive experience in post-graduate medical education. He was a head team physician for the Freestyle Ski Team at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy, and director of the Performance Services center at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver British Columbia. Dr. Brolinson has served on the boards of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the Midwest Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine. He is a past president of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine.
He is a former associate editor for the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine and a former member of the editorial board of the Physician and Sports Medicine. He is former section editor for Competitive Sports and Pain Management in the Journal of Current Sports Medicine Reports. Dr. Brolinson is a frequent speaker at national sports medicine meetings and often teaches didactic laboratory sessions on the use of osteopathic manipulative therapy for athletic injuries and he has published several scholarly articles and book chapters in the area of sport and exercise medicine

David Harden, D.O., F.A.A.F.P.Assistant Professor, OMM-VCOM

Dr. Harden graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992. He then moved to Roanoke, Virginia and completed his family practice residency training at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in 1995.With two specialties, Dr. Harden is Board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine as well as in Family Practice. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice in addition to the American Board of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine. He now works as the Medical Director of the Warm Hearth Health Care Center as well as being an assistant professor in the Department of Geriatrics at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Here at APCA, Dr. Harden provides patients with osteopathic evaluation and care.

Faculty, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation/Sports Medicine- VCOMDr. McCrady has been lucky enough to live in beautiful southwestern Virginia for most of his life. After growing up in Roanoke, he received his bachelor’s degree form Bridgewater College. He then stayed in the area to graduate from medical school in the inaugural class at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007. Dr. McCrady then completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, one of his specialties, at Case Western Reserve University where he served as chief resident in 2011, his final year. He returned to the New River Valley and finished his fellowship in Sports Medicine, his second specialty, at VCOM/VT in 2012.Today Dr. McCrady treats patients with sports injuries and orthopedic conditions through the use of a variety of pain management options including therapeutic, pharmacologic, injection therapy such as prolotherary and platelet rich plasma, and osteopathic manipulation. He also performs nerve conduction studies/EMGs and musculoskeletal ultrasound. When not working with us here at APCA, Dr. McCrady is a faculty member at VCOM as well as a team physician for Virginia Tech.

After finishing his Bachelor’s degree at the University of North Caroline Charlotte, Dr. Rogers completed a Master’s degree in Health Care Ethics from Duquesne University in Pittsburg. He then received his Osteopathic Medicine degree from Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical Center. For his Family Medicine residency training, he worked at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill until 2006 and went on to complete a Sports Medicine fellowship at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Virginia Tech in 2007.With his multiple specialties in Sports Medicine, Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, Dr. Rogers is primarily interested in sports medicine, health promotion and preventive care, undergraduate medical education and osteopathic manual medicine. In addition to working as a professor and here with us at APCA, he enjoys serving as a team physician for a number of groups including Virginia Tech Athletics, Pulaski Yankees, a rookie league affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, and Christiansburg High School.

Mark Rolfs, DO

Mark Rolfs, DO was born and raised in suburban Chicago. After graduating high school, he moved to Seattle and attended the University of Washington for undergraduate studies, then went on to earn his Doctorate of Pharmacy from UW. Dr. Rolfs completed medical school at VCOM in 2011 and a combined internal medicine/family medicine residency at St. Vincent Health in Indianapolis, Indiana. Because of special interests in musculoskeletal medicine, osteopathic manipulation, PRP/prolotherapy and working with athletes – he opted to pursue a Sports Medicine fellowship. He, along with his wife and four children, is very excited to be back in Blacksburg and looking forward to working with the community, the medical college and Virginia Tech athletics.

Jos Edison, D.O.

Joseph Edison, DO received his B.S. in Exercise Physiology from Valdosta State University where he also played football for VSU and was part of the 2004 DII National Championship team. Dr. Edison completed medical school at VCOM and residency training in Family Medicine at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, SC. Jos has always wanted to remain connected to the sports environment and is excited to be joining the medical team for Virginia Tech athletes, as well as working with current VCOM students. Outside of medicine, Jos enjoys spending time with his wife, Kim and two sons, Tyler and Camden.

Jennifer Albrecht, D.O.

A native of upstate New York, Jen Albrecht completed her dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biochemistry and Human Nutrition, Foods & Exercise while playing volleyball for the Hokies. She then earned her Doctorate of Osteopathy from Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to complete her family medicine residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. Her interests include osteopathic manual manipulation and sports nutrition and she continues to enjoy playing sand volleyball in her free time. Jen is excited to return to Blacksburg to serve her alma mater and the surrounding community as a sports medicine fellow.

After growing up in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Dr. Tobey received her B.S. in biology from Messiah College. She then went on to graduate from Lake Eris College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005. In 2006, she completed her internship at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center and then went on to finish her residency training in 2009 from Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.Specializing in Pediatrics, Dr. Tobey is a board certified pediatrician as well as a fellow in both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians. While she loves caring for all children from newborns to teenagers, she has a special interest in Pediatric Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM). With extensive experience, she is skilled in all aspects of OMM including cranial sacral therapy. Dr. Tobey is also a member of the Cranial Academy and a founding member of the American Academy of Pediatric Osteopathy. When not working as a professor or here at APCA with us, she enjoys using her free time to garden and to spend time with her family.

Anna was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. She attended Virginia Tech and earned a bachelors degree in Human, Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise in 2011. While at Virginia Tech she assisted with Women’s Basketball as a sports medicine student aide. She then received her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2015. Anna gained clinical experience with UNCC football and tennis, high school football, basketball, wrestling, lacrosse, baseball, softball and soccer. She also spent time with OrthoCarolina an outpatient sports physical therapy clinic. She is excited to return to Blacksburg and begin her career with VCOM. Anna is the new assistant athletic trainer at Pulaski County High School.

Samantha Cooper

Samantha graduated from Shenandoah University with her Bachelors of Science Degree in Kinesiology in 2012. She gained her Masters of Science degree in Athletic Training from Shenandoah University and became certified in 2014. During her time at Shenandoah University, Samantha was able to work with the University of Maryland Football team, Millbrook High School, the University of Richmond Women’s Soccer team, and was able to work with the University of Richmond’s Men’s Lacrosse team in their inaugural year. After completing her education, Samantha joined the staff at the University of Richmond for a one year internship, where she was the primary Certified Athletic Trainer for both the men’s and women’s Cross Country team and assisted with the men’s and women’s Tennis teams and Spring Football.
In her free time, Samantha enjoys reading and anything to do with being outside. She grew up in Bath County and is happy to be back in the mountains, while currently residing in Riner. Samantha joins the VCOM family and is excited to become an Eagle as the new Head Athletic Trainer for Auburn High School.

Mike Stout, MS LAT

Originally from outside of Cleveland, OH Mike received his bachelors degree in Athletic Training/Clinical Management from Bowling Green State University. During his time there he spent substantial time with BGSUs Football and Gymnastics teams. After BGSU Mike earned his masters degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Athletic Training from the University of Toledo. While at UT he had the opportunity to cover the Glass City Marathon, NAFB College World Series, and complete his thesis: Predicting Lower Extremity Injuries in High School Football Players Using the Star Excursion Balance Test. Most recently Mike worked for Plymouth Physical Therapy Specialists in Michigan covering Walled Lake Western High School and Cleary University. Mike currently lives in Christiansburg with his wife Stephanie.

Julie Kidd, PharmD, MPH, BCPSAssistant Professor-VCOM

Julie Kidd received her pre-pharmacy curriculum form Samford University in Birmingham, AL and then attended McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Samford University where she received her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree. After graduation, she completed a pharmacy practice residency at the University of Virginia (UVa) Health Systems. She has practiced as a clinical pharmacist at UVa Health Systems as well as Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon in the areas of surgery, internal medicine, and neurology. While in Portland, she received her Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from OHSU. She now is a professor of Pharmacology and Epidemiology at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) and spends time at APCA as a clinical pharmacist. At APCA, she sees patients with chronic conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia and counsels these patients on their medications. While not at work, she loves spending time with her husband and two sons as well as yoga, running, and gardening.
